Knowledge & Research
UAMS: Your knowledge and research partner
Mission
UAMS is a management school embedded in the academic community, with the University of Antwerp as primary partner. This implies that the management school is committed to execute research activities in support of the delivery of state-of-the-art management education. In this way, UAMS not only disseminates knowledge through education but also generates new and innovative insights in management science.
The mission of the “Knowledge & Research” division is:
Be a Flemish and international point of reference for outstanding applied management research, as a source of inspiration for both practitioners and academics, in areas of expertise that fit within a socially responsible business school.
Focus
UAMS start from the premise that a business school can not operate in a vacuum, disconnected from the practitioners’ world, to only focus on theory. On the other hand, it cannot be so focused on practice that it fails to support the development of principles and theories that serve to increase understanding of practice. Based on these insights, the focus of the Knowledge & Research division is formulated as follows:
The UAMS Knowledge and Research activities focus on seeking answers to questions of theoretical and practical relevance to organisations. This includes examinations of behaviour in organisational contexts, as well as the social and economic settings within which such organisation are embedded. This requires a special attention for relevance, discipline-specific knowledge and systematic, rigorous methods of analysis.
Activities
The activities of the Knowledge & Research Division are organisaed around research/expertise centres, research chairs, research projecs and a educational material development centre. Within these entitities, a strong team of Belgian and international faculty are active, within a broad range of expertise areas.
Also, The ‘young potentials’ in the full-time Master programmes are immersed for a whole academic year on knowledge and skills sessions. In order to offer Master students their first concrete company experience along with practical experience, they work on consulting projects. With their specialised knowledge they are then able to advise in a wide range of management topics. These projects are under UAMS academic staff guidance.
The deployment of all these activities are amongst others enabled by the research support of the Flemish Government.
